Frosty Update + Frosty Olympics

Dear Team Frosty:

It’s the dog days of summer where our thoughts turn to vacations, how to cool down, ocean swims, and The Frosty Olympics. We can’t cool you down (although much of the Frostman USA gear is moisture-wicking) but we can bring you the Olympics For a Cause. We’re mixing things up. This Year’s Frosty Olympics will be held on October 24th at The Chart House in Redondo Beach. While we originally considered this move for a change of pace and to lessen the stress of the pack-in-pack-out at the beach, the truth is that the progression of Frosty’s ALS has made this move necessary. The Cornhole Tournament will take place on the sand adjacent to the Chart House. We were lucky that for the first 5+ years Frosty’s ALS progressed relatively slowly. But that luck has run out. We are sad to report that Frosty’s ALS has been progressing at an exponential rate. While he can still walk, it is very difficult for him to do so and only for very short distances. His breathing is labored. He is using multiple devices to help with his breathing. These devices need to be plugged in. This has turned our change of location from a mere convenience to an absolute necessity.

The accelerated pace of the progression of Frosty’s ALS brings additional concerns. With his difficulty in breathing comes a difficulty in Frosty’s ability to speak. The loss of speech function is a common and cruel result of ALS. We cannot take our ability to hold a back-and-forth conversation with Frosty for granted. We encourage you to attend the Frosty Olympics and take advantage of this opportunity.

We could not have made it this far without the love, support, community, and generosity of each of you over the years. But as Frosty’s disease progresses, so too does his need for support. We have hired a daytime caregiver for Frosty to care for him. We are looking for additional caregivers to cover more parts of the day once school and the water polo season start back up and there are more demands on the Foster family’s time. We are also in the process of purchasing a second lift chair/bed so Frosty can get a better night’s rest. Basically, we are working on anything that can improve the quality of life for Frosty and the Foster family. Your generosity and support are essential to our ability to accomplish our mission. For that we sincerely thank you.

We look forward to seeing you all on October 24 th . For more information and to purchase your Frosty Olympics and Cornhole Tournament tickets please visit: TeamFrosty07.org

And thanks again. The Fosters cannot get through this without us.

Thank you,
Team Frosty
